comforting warmth of one’s own home – this is what we at Christel’s Posh Pastries are all about.
Hello, everyone! I’m Christel Herring, owner and Executive Pastry Chef of Christel’s Posh
Pastries. I started my love for baking at the age of 6, baking Christmas cookies with my mom,
brothers and sister. My sister and I made smart use of our time to bake cookies and sell them
out of our house in Troy, Ohio. I got my inspiration to pursue baking as a career however, from my father.

My dad was a local award-winning pastry chef. He was my inspiration.
He lit the fire in me, so to speak, and from there, baking became my life’s passion. I went to the
University of Cincinnati and eventually transferred to Howard University to study medicine, but I
felt that my heart lay somewhere else. I decided to focus on baking. During my college years, I
often found myself baking during my spare time and inviting friends over to try the goodies.
Seeing the joy in everyone’s faces once they tried out my baked goods made me realize I had
chosen the right path and would pursue this passion professionally.

I started working on sophisticated desserts during my college days. After I graduated, I worked
for a while but eventually found myself at school, this time at Johnson and Wales University to
study Baking and Pastry Arts. The rest, you could say, is history. I eventually became a pastry
chef at the Stadium for the Carolina Panthers, worked as an Executive Pastry Chef at Johnson
C. Smith University, and after all the hard work and dedication, Christel’s Posh Pastries also
became a reality.
